Tignes, a Resort Born Around Its Lake
In the heart of the Haute-Tarentaise, Tignes has a unique story. In 1952, the construction of the Chevril dam submerged the old village beneath the waters of the lake. Its inhabitants rebuilt their lives higher up, around the lake of Tignes, at 2,100 metres.
Today, the giant fresco of Hercules painted on the dam wall greets travellers as they arrive at the resort.
Tignes hosted the freestyle skiing events of the 1992 Olympic Winter Games, and its Grande Motte glacier, rising to nearly 3,500 metres, makes it one of the most snow-sure resorts in the Alps.
Together with Val d’Isère, it forms an exceptional ski area, at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park.

How long is the transfer to Tignes?
Allow around 2 hours to 2 hours 30 from Chambéry, 3 hours to 3 hours 30 from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry and from Geneva, and 5 to 6 hours from Zurich, depending on road conditions.
From Geneva, we favour the scenic route along Lake Annecy, and always on Saturdays; if you prefer the motorway, simply let us know when you make your request.
